Small
companies, Local Authorities and private individuals sometimes
find themselves in a position where purchased domestic products
such as kitchen equipment and gardening tools malfunction when
used, or installations such as air-conditioning and hot water
systems fail to function correctly. This can arise for a wide
range of reasons such as incorrect material selection, poor
design and/or stressing and inadequate protection. Misuse by
the purchaser may also be considered. Problems that fall into
this category are normally initially investigated at a no-cost
basis and an opinion given on the probability of a claim for
repair or replacement being successful. Any work beyond this
stage is done on an agreed cost basis. As with all of our work,
problems arise in estimating the cost of investigations as the
work required is only known as the job proceeds. Agreement on
additional cost is therefore reached before work continues.
