Our
activities in this field have involved assistance in the design
and manufacture of surgical implants as well as the provision
of advice on new materials and methods of fabrication. Implants
ideally fall into the 'fit and forget' category but the harsh
environment in which they operate means that this is not always
achieved. They are subject to wear and corrosion as well as
damage by progressive cracking mechanisms such as fatigue and
stress corrosion. In service problems with such equipment very
often result in recovery and replacement in elderly people.
Our expertise allows us to provide advice that will reduce the
need for this to a minimum.
